Under the general direction of the Director of Attorney Recruiting; the local office hiring Partners and according to established Firm policies and procedures, the Lateral Attorney Recruitment Manager is responsible for management and execution of the lateral associate and staff attorney recruitment process in the Chicago, Los Angeles and Texas offices. Maintains professionalism and strict confidentiality in all client and Firm matters.
This position can be based in our Chicago, Dallas or Houston, TX office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but may not be limited to, the following. Other duties may be requested and/or assigned.
Lateral Associate Recruitment (Chicago, LA & Texas)
•Work with department heads and office managing partners to identify and analyze lateral associate and staff attorney hiring needs. Analyze data and trends in legal industry and geographic markets to identify potential candidates and areas of focus.
•Develop job postings, screen candidate resumes and identify candidates to be interviewed; schedule interviews, collect evaluation feedback, manage offer decision process, prepare offer letters and maintain lateral hiring reports.
•Oversee the candidate due diligence process including: conflicts, reference and background checks and bar verification process.
•Utilize LinkedIn Recruiter and other recruiting technology to source candidates and create a candidate pipeline.
•Develop and maintain relationships with legal search firms; manage firm-wide electronic communication of open positions to search firms. Prepare search firm agreements and negotiate terms.
•Become proficient on the firm’s practice areas, mission, strategic focus, and growth strategy; articulate and convey to candidates, search firms and other external entities.
•Maintain the lateral associate recruitment website pages and content.
•Administer and maintain associate recruiting policies, operational procedures and practices consistent with the firm goals and objectives.
•Maintain strong working relationships with internal and external constituencies including Katten lawyers and administrative department leads, law school alumni services professionals, legal search firms and others.
•Manage and support diverse lateral associate recruiting initiatives as directed by the Women’s Leadership Forum and Chief Diversity Officer.
•Keep abreast of current recruiting practices and market innovations. Share ideas and information with Director of Attorney Recruitment and attorney recruitment team.
•Assist in maintaining database for recruiting records and preparing requisite statistical and status reports.
•Support New York lateral associate hiring process as needed.
•Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Attorney Recruitment.
Directly supervises and manages employees and is responsible for their overall direction, coordination, and evaluation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Firm’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and making recommendations for hiring, promotion, compensation, and termination.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
•Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five or more years of direct attorney recruitment experience in a law firm or attorney placement agency with increasing responsibility is required.
•Demonstrated experience managing others or leading large scale team initiatives and projects is required.
•Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with courtesy and diplomacy, efficiently follow written and verbal instructions, provide information, and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of attorneys, candidates, clients, staff and outside contacts.
•Ability to work independently and maintain composure under pressure. Ability to collaborate with high energy, creativity and vision in order to manage as a decision-maker and contributor on all levels.
•Exceptional organization skills, ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and smoothly.
•Ability to interact effectively with candidates, all levels of firm personnel and a variety of external entities.
•Must possess superior judgment and discretion and be able to protect and maintain highly confidential information.
•Sophisticated and strategic research skills to identify candidates.
•Advanced knowledge of recruiting software, applicant tracking systems (ATS) and LinkedIn Recruiter.
•Ability to work extended hours as needed.
•Ability to travel frequently to offices with recruitment responsibilities.
•Computer proficiency in Outlook, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
•Attention to detail is necessary.
•Ability to occasionally retrieve and distribute files, written documentation, or office supplies weighing up to 10 pounds.
